Estudió Bellas Artes en Orán (Argelia) y participó en numerosas exposiciones colectivas en los campamentos. Su obra se incluyó en la Exposición Internacional de Argel en 1988 y en II Encuentro Internacional de Artes Plásticas de Argel, en 1991. Recibió el primer premio al mejor artista en 1995 en las Jornadas de Artistas Saharauis y el segundo premio en Artes Plásticas en el Festival de Jóvenes Artistas, organizado por el Ministerio saharaui de Cultura en la Wilaya de El Aiún.
Ha realizado exposiciones en España, Cuba y en el Sandblast Festival 2007 de Londres. La obra de Brahim engloba varios estilos, entre ellos el realismo figurativo naïf, con aportaciones surrealistas.
Las técnicas utilizadas son el óleo sobre lienzo, acrílicos sobre lienzo y grafito sobre papel y la temática suele abordar las reivindicaciones del pueblo Saharaui, desgranándose la psicología de un pueblo oprimido y sustraído de su territorio ancestral, reflejando sus anhelos, miedos y esperanzas. Su pintura refleja “el sufrimiento de mi pueblo que reclama una libertad que no llega” . En este sentido, a través de sus exposiciones, el artista colabora para conseguir la independencia del pueblo saharaui, sometido a un exilio obligado durante más de 30 años.

Salek Brahim was born in Mahbes, a city in Western Sahara, but he has spent part of his life in exile in the Algerian Hamada, where the Saharawi refugee camps are located.
He studied Arts in Oran (Algeria) and took part in many collective exhibitions in the refugee camps. His work was included in the International Exhibition in 1988 in Algiers and in the 2nd International Biennial of Plastic Arts, Algiers, 1991. He was awarded Best Artist in 1995 during the Saharawi Artists' Conference and Second Prize in Plastic Arts durint the Young Artists' Festival arranged by the Saharawi Ministry of Culture in the Wilaya of Laayoune.
He has also exhibited in Spain, Cuba and in the Sandblast Festival, London, in 2007. Brahim's work includes several styles, among them naive figurative realism, with a surrealist vein. The techniques he employs are oil painting on canvas and graphite on paper. As for the themes, he usually deals with the Saharawi people's demands, reflecting the psychology of an opressed people, deprived of their ancestral land, their longings, their fears and their hope. His painting reflects "my people's suffering, claiming for a freedom which hasn't yet come". Thus, through his exhibitions this artist tries to work towards the independence of the Saharawi people, subject to a forced exile for more than 30 years now.
